The scope of aromatherapy in scientific research

A promising start to a new partnership with the Armand-Frappier Foundation

A generous donation of $250,000 from Lucie B.-Mainguy in 2023 has paved the way for groundbreaking research in aromatherapy. This donation has enabled the exploration of active aromatic molecules and their potential non-patentable natural applications. These projects, underpinned by rigorous scientific research, aim to contribute to the Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie Centre’s mission of improving public health and well-being.

Significant Scientific Collaborations

With Professor Monique Lacroix, Ph. D. since 2015, Lucie B.-Mainguy has been collaborating with Professor Monique Lacroix, PhD, on innovative projects. Together, they have studied foodborne pathogens controlled by culinary essential oils and, in 2020, explored the antiviral potential of essential oils. This latter project, conducted with INRS student Karelle Contant, demonstrated promising results for preventing viral and bacterial contagions.

With Professor Éric Déziel In 2025, a new project led by Professor Éric Déziel will explore the potential of essential oils to combat bacterial infections. This innovative project will target “quorum sensing”, a strategy aimed at disrupting communication between bacteria, offering a promising alternative to traditional antibiotics.
